Date Movie: Hilarious Moments in Hilariously Bad Films

By Daniel Sumpton | Misfit Media Columnist

Disgusting Movie, a film that is officially known as Date Movie, is one of the most unenjoyable experiences that I have ever trudged through. It has previously been amusing to go through these old parody films in an attempt to find something salvageable, but Date Movie’s absolute reliance on poorly executed gross-out humour leaves me with little more than boiling hatred for all the people involved in what my eyes were forced to be put through. Admittedly, amongst the vast majority of terribleness in Date Movie, there are a couple funny moments, so here they are.

Alyson Hannigan being blasted with a fire hose in a fat suit

I feel like this is the least an actress deserves for participating in such an atrocity. It would puzzle the normal person that someone so talented who were in classics like How I Met Your Mother could ever be so distastefully awful in any film. But while she is skipping around the set stereotyping fat people as losers who could never find a partner, watching her get blasted with a fire hose is more satisfying than the average orgasm. I instantaneously burst out with laughter.

The Lil Jon Cameo

Far less amusing than watching the lead actress get blasted with a fire hose, but Lil Jon making a random cameo with his signature screeching that barely lasts ten seconds is absurd enough for some air to blow out your nose. What adds to the mild hilarity is that Lil Jon is actually in the introductory credits to the film as if he is going to play an actual role in the film. The rapper’s cameo has actually gone viral on YouTube since the film’s release, showing a glimpse of actual comedy amongst the giant shadow that is this terrible film.

Epic Movie is the highest grossing movie directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer to date. The film debuted at #1 at the box office, had a lead actor that went on to be a White House staff member for the Barack Obama administration, and made over 4 times its budget. But what was once a box office smash hit is now only recognised as one of the worst films ever made. Believe it or not, this widely panned film actually has some funny moments, although very rare.
