Nintendo 64 Games That Should be on Nintendo Switch Online

By Daniel Sumpton | Misfit Media Columnist

Watching Earthbound and Earthbound: Beginnings get announced for Nintendo Switch Online in the latest Nintendo Direct was frustrating, like they should have been there all along. After many years of Virtual Console for the Wii and Wii U, seeing games be drip-fed to the Nintendo Switch many years after it should have been on the console is agonising. It seems that we are well into the second half of the Nintendo Switch’s lifespan, and we are still getting NES and SNES games, when we should be past that and focusing on the Nintendo 64. By now, I expected to get much bigger surprises for Nintendo Switch Online or the E Shop. Without further rambling, here are games that I want to see from the Nintendo 64 on Nintendo Switch Online.

Pokémon Puzzle League

Pokémon Puzzle League is the perfect time waster. When I reminisce about playing this game on a box TV set as a child, it often brings me to thinking about how I would love to play this game in bed on my Nintendo Switch. For those who don’t know, Pokémon Puzzle League is a puzzle game from the year 2000 where you try to get 3 blocks or more in a row to make as many blocks as you can disappear before there are too many blocks on your player’s side. Basically, the cooler Candy Crush, but from the very early 2000’s. The game was highly appraised and there are many people who would get the same fuzzy feeling that I do when seeing those little blocks move up the screen in front of a still image of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu in 2022.

Diddy Kong Racing

This game deserves more than to just be ported to the Nintendo Switch. Diddy Kong Racing deserves a full HD sequel. If we can’t get that, then we at least deserve to play Diddy Kong Racing on the go with our Nintendo Switch consoles. As a kid, I probably spent more time zooming around the main area and bumping into the elephant genie than I did anything else. For those who don’t know, Diddy Kong Racing is a classic racing game from 1997 where you can drive a car, little aeroplane, or a hovercraft. Nintendo have missed many chances to bring Diddy Kong Racing into the next generation, let’s hope they don’t miss out for much longer.
