Disney+ is a subscription service where you can watch films and tv shows distributed by Disney. Brands such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic are highlighted on the service. Amazingly for us, there is also another section available in Australia called Star, where you can watch films and tv shows by Disney subsidiaries, such as Disney’s newly acquired 20th Century Studios. While Disney may have a host of Christmas films available on the service, there are a couple that are a great choice to watch with your family over Christmas that are more hidden than others on the platform.
Jingle All The Way
Put simply, Jingle All The Way is a film where Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character Howard racks up felonies in order to get his son an action figure in time for Christmas morning. Breaking and entering, impersonating law enforcement, punching a reindeer in the face, and assaulting multiple people (in a PG way), are just some of the things Howard gets up to in his quest to make his son happy on Christmas day. Schwarzenegger has a great level of self-awareness as he plays a role in a family film where his presence is purposely out of place. He is also aided by his hilarious co-star Sinbad who he bounces off comedically while the two compete with each other to find the action figure. The movie is a blast from the past right down to its bizarre ending, ensuring that this 1996 Christmas film will have your whole family laughing on the 25th of December.
Jingle All The Way 2
Although Schwarzenegger does not return for the 2014 official sequel, Larry the Cable Guy (the voice of Mater from Disney Pixar’s Cars), takes his place as the lead star and fits snuggly into the role. Jingle All The Way 2 is an impressive film for its modest budget, laced with southern-styled comedy and a relevant, inspirational message about unifying, no matter what walk of life you come from. Although it is not as bizarre and fantastical as its predecessor (Larry does not commit anywhere near as many crimes as Harold), it is a sweet and lowkey Christmas comedy to end a perfect Christmas day of watching films with your family. Also, you can watch Jingle All The Way 2 without watching its predecessor (no characters overlap), the only similarities between the two films is that they both follow a father searching for a toy to give to their child on Christmas day.
